Find Care & Housing
My mother is on Aricept and Namenda. She is 90 and hasn't gotten any worse in 2 years. Not sure when she was diagnosed, but she's been living near us and now with us for the past 2 years. She used to live 9 hours away, so I don't know how long things had been really going south because she's never acknowledged that there's anything wrong with her.

I don't have experience with these meds, but, I am very curious about them. What have you noticed? I hope you get some responses.

He's been on razadyne for a year. Seemed to help at first. Only been on Namenda a couple of weeks. I'm hoping it helps cause I can see he is getting worse.

Penny,
Was this prescribed by a Primary or psychiatrist? I might contact the doctor to let them know. It could be the med or something else. I think it's generally suggested to report any change in mental status. I might explore if he has something else like a UTI or other illness that could be causing it.

Did they diagnose him with Alzheimers? It's my understanding that some of these meds are only for that particular condition. My LO was diagnosed with Vascular Dementia and that's one reason I didn't go with those types of medication. (Namenda, Aricept)

One thing that I never fully understood with these medications is that they say it will not effect the progression of the disease, but, it may slow the symptoms. I'm not sure what that means, but, I honestly, haven't read much positive about them and I read a lot about dementia, treatment and care. But, that's just one observation. Maybe, others will have more positive stories.

I didn't find "improvement" but I do feel the meds help slow some if the symptoms/behaviors.
